Web 2.0 for Agriculture
INFOCOMM Technologies (ICT) Ltd believes that the use and leverage of ICTs is critical to modernizing the Caribbean agriculture sector. As such, we are happy to be the provider of choice for the delivery of Web 2.0 for Agriculture Learning Opportunities in the Caribbean region.
The Technical Centre for Rural and Agricultural Cooperation (CTA) is the owner and sponsor of the Web 2.0 Learning Opportunities and has been successfully implementing the programme in ACP countries since 2010.
ICT Ltd has been engaged to deliver all of the Caribbean Web 2.0 training sessions to date and participant feedback on the programme delivery has been all-around positive.
Beneficiaries of this training include the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), the Caribbean Poultry Association and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Production in both Trinidad and St. Lucia.
During the sessions, ICT Ltd. demonstrated Web 2.0 technologies and assisted participants in their hands-on assignments. ICT Ltd also created a manual to guide participants post training.
The training curriculum included the following topics:
- – RSS Feeds and Alerts
- – Remote Collaboration – Wikis, Google Docs
- – VoIP
- – Online Mapping
- – Online Publishing (microblogging and blogging)
- – Professional/ Corporate Social Networking (LinkedIn, Facebook)
The St. Lucia training roll-out in particular, received considerable publicity. The opening ceremony was covered by the St. Lucia Government Information Services and HTS Television broadcasted the event for a 2-minute segment during the 7pm newscast on November 27th. The first St. Lucia training was held from November 26th – 30th 2012, and the second leg is scheduled for March 18th – 22nd 2013.
