Profile:
Dr. Michael Smith is the current Chairman of the Information Communications Technology at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) and Vice President of Digital Media Studies Program. He has developed seminal audio and image processing systems to analyze video content and improve video search, recommendation and visualization.  As part of the Informedia Video Library project at Carnegie Mellon University, he developed and patented technology for video metadata and summarization, which was licensed to several media organizations, including Sonic Foundry and Sony.

Dr. Smith has also been the Director of Research at France Telecom R&D, San Francisco.  He was also a visiting professor at the University of Texas in Austin, Morehouse College, the University of Campinas, Brazil, the University of California at Berkeley and he recently completed a Fulbright at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
