With multiple years of experience in Technology and Strategy-based roles, Mr. Atiba Phillips has established himself as a true visionary in the ICT space.
He holds an MBA from University of California at Berkeley, USA and is also a Fulbright and Haas Merit Scholar.
He has built a reputation for delivering business solutions and strategies for organizations in a wide range of sectors, including agriculture, telecommunications, energy services and government, and is well respected in the Regional an International ICT community.
Atiba Phillips is the Founder and Principal Consultant at INFOCOMM Technologies (ICT) Ltd. (www.ict.co.tt). In this role he has led several multi-domestic ICT strategy projects including the “Connect the Caribbean” initiative– the Caribbean’s response to the International Telecommunications Union’s (ITU) “Connect the World” program. He was also engaged as the e-Commerce Expert on the EU sponsored Regional e-Commerce Policy initiative. Atiba also gave birth to “i-Create” – the Caribbean’s first Regional e-content and mobile applications competition, operated by the Caribbean Association of National Telecommunication Organisations (CANTO).
Mr. Phillips has served in the post of Chairman and also Managing Director of the State ICT implementation capacity for Trinidad and Tobago – The National ICT Company (dubbed iGovTT), where he created and led the way for “all things ICT” for a two year period. He was the State’s ICT lead in Prime Ministerial missions to India, Brazil and the USA; He represented government at Regional telecommunications forums; oversaw the distribution of 38,000 laptops to secondary school children, and was the owner / champion of the Trinidad & Tobago National ICT Plan (2012 – 2016) as well as key author of the Trinidad and Tobago e-Government Strategy for the same period. During his tenure (2011-2012), Trinidad and Tobago jumped nineteen (19) places in the World Economic Forum’s Networked Readiness rankings, and won the Organisation of American State’s (OAS) award for e-Government in the LATAM Region.
Previously Mr. Phillips was the Executive Manager of e-Commerce for the Trinidad and Tobago Government where he pioneered, among other notable initiatives, the e-Business Roundtable. His tenure culminated with the launching of the largest ICT business networking event in Trinidad and Tobago, 1st ICT Business and Innovation Symposium, in 2008.
He also holds IT consulting experience within the energy industry having worked with British Petroleum and MCT and Associates. He was also employee #2 in an innovative technology-based non-profit startup in California (USA) called BAYCAT, the model for which has since been replicated in three US cities to-date.
Atiba has also lectured at the Masters level, in Strategic IT in e-Business and e-Marketing through the University of Greenwich, England and is the founder of the Community HUB (www.mycommuntyhub.org) – an innovative non-profit organization which leverages ICTs in service of Youth and Community development.
